End of an Era?

The DYTM Raja Nazrin Shah KL International Open 2014 has come to a successful end... and while probably forever, its was certainly on a high note.

Due to limitations of space there were room for just 88 players from 19 countries, a record 46 of them being titled players including 12 grandmasters, 5 woman grandmasters, 13 international masters, 3 woman international masters, 8 FIDE masters and 3 woman FIDE masters.

Clearly there are few events with the depth of field that is the KL Open as our event is popularly known and over the years so many players have achieved international title norms and even international titles outright.

Our roll of winners are all great champions in their own right and we are proud they have graced our closing ceremonies holding aloft the DYTM Raja Dr Nazrin Shah Challenge Trophy and they are Anton Filipov (Uzbekistan), Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son (Vietnam), Hou Yifan (China), Oliver Barbosa (Philippines), and Sergei Tivikov (Nederlands).

For seven years now we have operated on a tight budget, as little as one fifth that of say an event like the Malaysian Open and in many of them the Olympic Sports Hotel has been our home and year in year out participants from have returned and we have all become friends.

I am very pleased this year the largest number of players have come from the host country and even better that so many young players asked for the opportunity to take part as this bodies well for their future.

There is too much to be said and too many to thank but it is well known that KLCA President Dato' Sri Dr Edmund Santhara has been the main force behind both KLCA and the KL Open and we are very grateful for support from the Malaysian Intellect Development Foundation, Masterskill Education Group Berhad, Polgar Chess Asia and more recently the Kasparov Chess Foundation Asia-Pacific.

FIDE X-Files

www.fidexfiles.blogspot.com

Today Ignatius Leong has quietly started his blog - clearly a platform of his own to address the many ridiculous allegations, even outright lies, made against him by certain of his misguided salaried and appointed colleagues (as opposed to being actually elected) in FIDE.

I have probably said it before but Kirsan Ilyumzhinov openly admitting to be mixing up FIDE and campaign work is not acceptable and clearly using the organisations funds is another no no. It really is nauseating when everything is now given free for possible votes and his henchmen are running around on FIDE salaries and stipends to win support.

But perhaps that pales in comparison to a head of an International Sports body having the use of Russia's assets in each country he visits (the Ambassador in attendance no less) together with promises of largesse from same and that is on top of letters informing National Chess Federations he is visiting without warning and agenda that which at the same time actually instructs (demands?) to arrange meetings with their country's political leadership for him!

Can it be Ilymzhinov's FIDE has reached such standing that we now have to take its instructions from its President in our own countries on non-chess matters?

It is hilarious that Leong has named his blog the FIDE X-Files given its long time and completely not credible leaders propensity to tell the public of his alien friends when not trying to keep up a pretence of importance by showing off his non existent friends in high places (Russia of course excluded).

And from the first posts in this blog one can see that most certainly "The Truth is in Here" as opposed to the fiction that best describes the working trips the FIDE President posts on the FIDE where he is mostly unwelcome and so meets former leaders, ex-leaders of National Chess Federations, and even more bizarrely even the widow of his predecessor to purportedly discuss his all time favourite topic of chess in schools.

I look forward to reading more in this new blog of this FIDE that is led by a Master of the photo opportunity and Grandmaster of the non executed M.O.U.

Following a highly successful visit to KL from 23-25 April (more on that later as there is so much that happened and so much to say), Garry Kasparov dropped by Singapore on 26 April to attend the opening ceremony of the World Amateur Championships and those Malaysians lucky enough to get a piece of him in his massive visit would recognise the typical impact as in the following photos.

No one interested to sponsor Carlsen-Anand? I wonder if it will end up in Khanty-Mansiysk as I doubt a Russian oligarch would be interested to do it elsewhere as there isn't even an ex-countryman playing.

Tan Li Ting is Masters Champion

$

Our 16 year old current National Junior Champion Tan Li Ting today added the Malaysian Masters title to the National Championship she won when just 12 years of age.

In the end it was a convincing victory helped by several of her main rivals imploding under the pressure of ensuring their qualification for the Tromso Olympiad but all credit should go to a determined young player who after a normal start, suffered a big loss but then made up for it with a series of wins to pile on the pressure.

Having become the only player to qualify with one round to spare, it was just a question of nailing the championship with the advantage of the white pieces.

Top seeded Alia Anin Azwa Bakri who has been very active recently, played solidly to be the only undefeated player and so successfully returns to strengthen the national team while last year's Masters champion Camilia Johari will sadly miss out.

While the Azman Hisham sisters remain amongst our best young players it is clear that many from their golden generation have now caught up, lacking only their experience and arguably all needing better coaching, and so other than being another more recent wake up call for them, I am curious if anything can be done to ensure this group can be retained and even expanded further and be made more successful.

Kasparov's Visit to Malaysia

A Report provided by Tengku Ahmad Badli Shah Raja Hussin for the Malaysian Chess Federation

On 23 April 2014, Garry Kasparov, 13th Wolrd Chess Champion and Candidate for FIDE President, flew into a grand welcome in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

After checking into the Putrajaya Shangri-la, first up was an early lunch with the organising committee headed by Tengku Ahamd Badli Shah Raja Hussin, Deputy President & Hon. Secretary of the Malaysian Chess Federation together with Dato' Sri Mustapa Mohamad, Minister for International Trade & Industry.

(Garry in conversation with Dato' Sri Mustapha Mohamad, Minister for International Trade and Industry.)

Then it was on to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for Chess as an Education Sport between Datuk Ibrahim Ahmad, Director General, Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), an agency under the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development and Tan Sri Ramli Ngah Talib, President of the Malaysian Chess Federation.

The partner for this program is of course the Kasparov Chess Foundation Asia-Pacific.

(Garry with Datuk Ibrahim Ahmad, Director General of MARA listening to Tan Sri Ramli Ngah Talib, President of the Malaysian Chess Federation explain the current adoption of chess in Malaysian education.)

Later that evening Kasparov captivated a large turn out from the ranks of Young Malaysian Corporate Leaders, proving inspirational with his sharing of his career in chess together with giving sound advice on business, life and politics.

(Garry speaking to Young Corporate Leaders)

(Young Corporate Leaders enjoying the evening with Garry)

The next day 24th April was the meeting with Khairy Jamaluddin, Minister for Youth and Sports. Brilliant and articulate, the young Minister was quickly able to position chess in Malaysia with the demands of education, why chess could not be a core sport, explaining that he was agreement with and would work with his colleagues in the Education Ministry to support Garry's vision for chess for education.

(Khairy Jamaluddin, Minister for Youth and Sport with Garry.)

Khairy Jamaluddin was the guest of honour at the Gala Dinner, where in his keynote address after confirming the support of both the Malaysian Chess Federation and the Malaysian chess public for Garry, he endorsed Malaysia's support for Garry for FIDE President.

(Khairy Jamaluddin at dinner with Garry)

(Khairy Jamaluddin publicly endorsing Garry on behalf of the Malaysian Chess Federation for FIDE President.)

(Garry and Tengku Ahmad Badli Shah)

(Garry handling over a cheque to Tan Sri Ramli Ngah Talib as a contribution to starting Malaysia's Chess in Education Fund.)

No evening with chessplayers could end without some chess and Garry obliged with a simultaneous exhibition with the best chessplayers amongst the dignitaries, all who brought along secret (or not so secret) help.

(Garry giving a Simul at the Gala Dinner}

(MCF Official help could not save Dato Suhami Shahdan, Ruling Party UMNO Supreme Council Member.)

The final day in Malaysian was 25th April and first up was the National Age Group Championships had been postponed a week so that Garry could speak to the 600 young talents that are likely to be Malaysia's chess future.

(Garry opening the National Age Group Championships.)

(Some of the Young Participants at the National Age Group Championships.)

(Parents leading the fight for autographs!)

No chess activity is too small for Garry to support and he was only too happy to officiate at the launch of the University Tenaga Malaysia (UNITEN) chess club.

(A New University Chess Club for UNITEN.)

Then came a no holds barred session with Malaysia's best and brightest young at the Strategic Leadership & Entrepreneurship Conference for Malaysian Youth Leaders with Garry was in his element.

(Dialogue with Youth Leaders.)

Last stop for a truly memorable visit that would certainly not be Garry's last was the Global Leadership Awards organised by The Leaders International together with American Leadership Development Association (ALDA).

(Group Photo of Global Leadership Awards Winners 2014.)

Garry was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award, following no less than another legend in Mohammad Ali as the only other sportsman winner!

What is FIDE coming to? Fear does that... Ilyumzhinov is clearly showing his colours.

First up, two most recent posts on FIDE website frontpage:

http://www.fide.com/component/content/article/1-fide-news/7976-fide-announcement-9-may-2014.html. A case of the pot clearly calling the kettle black - notice the complete intolerance and dictatorial tendencies - why not admit failure and focus energy in coming up with a plan?

http://www.fide.com/component/content/article/1-fide-news/7971-congratulations-to-nigel-freeman-on-his-birthday.html. Yes, now employees get front page birthday greetings - certainly not Gens Uma Sumus - it is more like own gang.

Then add to this nasty selective published complaint about a National Chess Federation, almost because a new pro-Kasparov committee has won election and is trying to clear up a mess created by the previous administration, but since when does FIDE do this in public? Counter productive and smells as an attempt at sabotage. If we take any of the official events and detail the challenges in writing to get it up, then every report would be the same:

http://www.fide.com/component/content/article/1-fide-news/7959-world-youth-championship-announcement.html

Then a quite sordid account which clearly illustrates how Kirsan Ilyumzhinov operates in his campaign and which I got first hand from those who commendably refused to be victims:

http://www.fidexfiles.blogspot.com/2014/05/kirsans-bad-moves-in-philippines.html and also http://www.fidexfiles.blogspot.com/2014/05/ilyumzhinov-desperate-in-asia.html.

I have heard similar tactics being used through the region and I am sure Malaysia which has declared open support for Garry Kasparov has experienced no different, a simple comparison of two reports of visits apparently made at the same time by the two candidates is quite telling:

http://kasparov2014.com/2014/05/06/malaysia/ (truth) versus http://fidefirst.com/?p=1939 (fiction).

After several years I will be attending, in fact I will be officially covering the event for the organisers with reports and stories at http://macau2014.blogspot.com/, which is also accessible via a link on the front page of the official website.

For sometime now I have neglected the photography side, taking just the minimal photos required, but this time I hope to seriously use the capabilities of my cameras!

Conspiracy Theory?

I read with some disgust two letters published on the FIDE website addressed to the people behind organising the Tromso Olympaid (http://www.fide.com/component/content/article/1-fide-news/7993-chess-olympiad-tromso-2014-05-15.html).

How does one talk like that to a partner hosting one of the two events that FIDE essentially owes its very existence to?

Clearly it was all political motivated as it is clear that Norway support Garry Kasparov's bid to become FIDE President and if one wishes an organiser to walk away in disgust, then this is how! Whatever the situation and I know behind the scenes the ridiculous additional demands that FIDE makes post award of an event when it is too late too pull out.

Then it occurred to me - quite madly perhaps? - but maybe that was what Kirsan Ilyumhinov wants? To then "rescue it" by holding it in Khanty-Mansisyk, Russia.

Once sure outcome would be victory in the coming FIDE Election. Not because he did anything good but because there would be no chance of a fair vote there. In fact it is not even certain that Kasparov could go there and if I were a member of his team during that time I would fear for my life.

But I am sure Tromso2014 will not only take place but will also put up an excellent show!

Comrade Ilyumzhinov Has Many Moves - All Dirty, Mostly Illegal!

$

Mr. Ilyumzhinov complains to Singaporean President about Garry Kasparov and FIDE Secretary General Leong. Mr. Ilyumzhinov has written to the members of the FIDE Executive Committee and President of Singapore Tony Tan Keng Yam drawing their attention to violations by FIDE Secretary General Ignatius Leong, who is also a key member of Mr. Kasparov’s Presidential ticket, Kommersant, a highly-regarded Russian daily newspaper, reports.

So starts the post titled "Kirsan Ilyumzhinov makes a move by writing a letter"on his FIDE First Campaign Website!

My take on all this?

1. Instead of responding to the open letter of Ignatius Leong stating facts that demanded serious answers, Ilyumzhinov has taken his dirty campaign that has so far seen him sitting down with representatives of governments of countries he has been visiting to complain and badmouth to now putting in a letter? (see http://www.thefidetrainer.com/2014/05/ignatius-leong-hits-back.html)

2. Probably we cannot understand this embarrassing behaviour of a leader of an international sports organisation - after all he has Vladimir Putin has his master, enjoys the Head of State company of the likes of Saddam Hussein and Muammar Gaddafi and is proud of his visitations with Aliens. (see http://www.thefidetrainer.com/2014/02/who-is-kirsan-ilyumzhinov.html)

3. What we can ask is in what capacity Ilyumzhinov is writing? Which brings into question whose complaint it really is as FIDE should have a due process to handle specific allegations, even if made by its autocratic leader, and it is rather peculiar, at least in democratic countries, to take such a complaint direct to another country's leader.

4. If indeed such a letter was written, how can an investigation go forward when already seriously compromised before it even starts by the accuser deliberately making sure that everyone sees it through a self congratulatory publication on his own campaign website and which by the way also diminishes the claim because its context is then just mere election politics where it should be construed as an attempt to try and use a government as a pawn? (see http://fidefirst.com/?p=2568)

5. Ilyumzhinov is not only desperate but clearly does not begin to understand norms of civilised, much less democratic behaviour and institutions, and his lack of statesmanship is a sad reflection of his upbringing and orientation as a despotic leader where the ends always justifies the means. (see http://www.themoscowtimes.com/news/article/riot-police-break-up-kalmyk-protest-85-arrested/228194.html and http://atimes.com/c-asia/CH17Ag01.html)

The Real Scandal is AGON

Malaysia at the 15th ASEAN+ Age Group Championships

The main standard chess championships is over and Malaysia was arguably represented by the best we have and we have to be happy with the single Gold by Wong Yinn Long in Open U-12 standard, a result that hopefully will be the breakthrough expected from him for some time now.

Ismail Ahmad was our only other winner, with Silver in the 50 Seniors although if Hamid Majd had agreed to join Gregory Lau in participating we would have been assured of at least the Team Bronze.

Of the others, the closest was Tan Li Ting who was fourth after losing her last round game in Girls U-20.

I was expecting a little more given Malaysians play Rapid almost exclusively year round but there were only two Bronze, in Open U-12 Wong Yinn Long adding to his Gold in Standard and our other earlier medalist Ismail Ahmad in Senior 50 also getting Bronze.

Improvement in Blitz?

The downward pattern continued with the Blitz even if arguably we increased our tally to three medals as unfortunately all were Bronze.

Lye Lik Zang, first seeded in all his earlier played events opted for U-12 and finally got a medal, Puteri Rifqah Fahada Azhar dropped to U-16 and also got one while Ismail Ahmad in Senior 50 got his third adding to the Silver and Bronze won earlier.

Garry Kasparov Returns to Macau!

(Sands Cotai Central, Macau)

Garry Kasparov was the guest of honour at the 15th ASEAN+ Age Group Chess Championships held at in Macao from 3-11 June 2014

(The huge crowd at the start on the first round)

With the regions biggest and longest standing event being held for the first time outside the original 10 national ASEAN grouping, the presence of the 13th World Chess Champion and FIDE Presidential Candidate, his third to the country(!), was an enormous boost indeed to both the organisers.

As always a visit by Kasparov not only energises the local chess community (in this case also the 650 participants from 21 countries!) but he also generates huge local interest with public, corporations and government.

SOCIAL EVENING & GALA DINNER

(Ceremonial VVIP seating at the Gala Dinner, far right is Jose Tavares, President of the Macau Sports Development Board)

So mindful of the huge impact of his previous visit where USD 400,000 was committed for a fully sponsored three year Macao chess in schools program, the Macau Chess Association together with IDM (Macau Sport Development Board) hosted a Gala Dinner at the world famous Macau Fisherman's Wharf in conjunction with the traditional event highlight - Social Night - on 9 June 2014.

(Garry was of course the keynote speaker)

( The Philippines took the honours in the blue-ribbon U-20 Girls and U-20 Open Standard Chess with International Master titles on offer to winners)

(Which was very satisfying to the National Chess Federation of the Philippines leadership)

(A great night with a Filipina also winning the talent contest at Social Night!)

(VVIPs on stage)

The evening ended with an exchange of gifts between Jose Silveirinha, President of Macau Chess Association, Kasparov, Tavares and Ignatius Leong, President of the ASEAN Chess Confederation.

CHESS IN EDUCATION

Next up was the Chess in Education Workshop open to all where Garry was an enthusiastic facilitator for the presenter Graham Jurgensen who introduced the Mini Chess program that showed the use of chess as an education tool for very young children could changing their lives and their communities in Africa.

(Leon Ramos-Ryan signing the agreement with Prospero Pichay Jr and Ignatius Leong with members of Team Kasparov 2014 looking on)

This potential of Mini Chess was very exciting to the many participants but Guam was fastest in seeking the help of the Kasparov Chess Foundation Asia-Pacific to help introduce and roll-out this and other chess programs.

CLOSING CEREMONY

Finally, Garry officiated at the closing ceremony where the Rapid Chess and Blitz Chess winners were announced and together with the earlier Standard Chess results, the overall winners were declared.

1. Vietnam (57 Gold, 46 Silver and 26 Bronze)
2. Philippines (35 Gold, 42 Silver and 17 Bronze)
3. Singapore (13 Gold, 7 Silver and 20 Bronze)
4. Indonesia (4 Gold, 4 Silver and 4 Bronze)
5. China (4 Gold, 3 Silver and 4 Bronze)
6. Malaysia (3 Gold, 5 Silver and 15 Bronze)
7. Russia (1 Gold, 1 Bronze)
8. Mongolia (1 Silver and 2 Bronze)
9. India (1 Silver and 1 Bronze)
10. Laos (2 Bronze)
11. New Zealand (1 Bronze)

 (Opening Remarks by Silveirinha)

 (A Huge Crowd in Attendance)

(An emotional moment on stage showing the very long and deep friendship between the two co-organisers)

(A relaxed and upbeat closing address by Kasparov which offered encouragement to the many young talents participating)

(Nothing but cameras when Garry is around!)

(It takes great teamwork: Jackson Li - Chief Arbiter, Maung Maung Lwin - Chairman of Appeals Committee, Panupand Vijjuprabha - Tournament Director, and Philip Chan - Social Director)

(Some of youngest of the many happy winners)

(Ian Wilkinson provided "serious" entertainment midway through the prize giving ceremony)

(Seems that even the veterans enjoyed winning prizes as much as the little ones)

 (Team winners amongst the girls)

 (Team winners amongst the boys)

(These young girls must be the future)

(As would be these even younger girls)

(To end a wonderful event, what less than the youngest participants in a final group photo with all the dignitaries present!)

Where does Malaysia really stand at the benchmark regional ASEAN+ Age Groups?

$
0
0
One of the wonderful things about the ASEAN+ Age Groups is that there are so many medals up for grabs! Tie-breaks don't apply and there are team medals too by taking the cumulative scores of the top three from each country in each category.

From U-8 Open & Girls to Senior 65, there was no less than 18 categories and with standard, rapid and blitz, 52 categories for individual alone and when multiplied by two for teams, 104, so a minimum of 312 medals were on offer! (ASEAN countries even get extra if a medalist comes from outside ASEAN and often there are shared Bronze).

But for this quick analysis, lets just look at individual medals because at the end of the day that is the real measurement, and tellingly while Malaysia with sixth place falls in the middle of the medal standing, we are actually the worst of the well represented ASEAN countries, arguably just on par with our small neighbours Singapore which perhaps had their best ever result, their new golden generation of U-14s scoring heavily for them.

Vietnam is the perennial powerhouses and participated with no less than 216 representations in all categories and all formats, finishing first (67 medals, 20 Gold).

The Philippines which came second had 150 and (37 medals, 16 Gold) while Singapore with 140 (7 medals, 2 Gold) were a distant fourth, that alone an indicator that having large numbers was not all the reason.

Malaysia are next with 128 but are only sixth (7 medals, one Gold), while Indonesia with just 24 are amazingly third (7 medals, 3 Gold, one more than Singapore!) and China, largely represented by nearby provinces, with 70 finished fourth (6 medals, 2 Gold)... but then the numbers drop drastically, Laos (playing for exposure) and Mongolia (mainly veteran women), both with 36, Thailand with 20 and Hongkong 19. Even Macau had just 12.

So how did Malaysia really do? Well, the experienced Wong Yinn Long got our only Gold in the U-12 Open Standard and shared Silver in U-12 Open Rapid while Lye Lik Zang who was otherwise disappointing in U-10 Open where he was top seeded, finally gave up on the competition and instead moved up to play U-12 Open Blitz where he got Bronze.

Also the less fancied of our three national players in the U-20 Girls, Puteri Rafqah Fahada Azhar, dropped down in her final event, to her natural age-group, for U-16 Girls Blitz where she got the Bronze shared with four others!

That is really our 4 medals as it was Ismail Ahmad in the supporting "old man" events where he shared Silver in 50 Senior Standard, got Bronze in Senior Rapid and again shared Silver in Senior Blitz (which made him our most medalled player in a category oddity in an Age Group Championships) and helped boost our total to 7 medals.

No, my conclusion is not to suggest that we send more veterans in future! It is just that clearly we had a leader this event with Yinn Long and if we have any future prospects beyond him they are from those younger, several who have clearly stagnated or are now following the usual pattern of deteriorating results as they get older, the reasons of course as much that of their parents as would be shouting blame at or attributing failure to MCF!

Shame On You, Nigel Freeman

Mr Larbi HOUARI has penned an open letter to FIDE protesting Kirsan's (with Makro & Friends) latest dirty trick which absolutely shows not only how low they can go but also the role being played by the FIDE Office and its Executive Director Nigel Freeman.

I am not really too surprised at Kirsan's FIDE acting like this but no matter how desperate, even excusing the many crude actions well documented, this is in my book, a criminal act.

The letter was written in French and then English translation was incorporated (blue text).

OPEN LETTER TO FIDE

Les élections FIDE & le « Gabon-Gate »
Fide election & the GabonGate

C’est une histoire incroyable.
This is an incredible story.

Very few Presidents of Federation can imagine such a scenario. However…

Under the pretext of elections in which all hits are allowed more than ever, a nation has officially lost control of its own federation, of its Olympiads and of course, its voting right.

The story begins in Democratic Republic of Congo, February the 8th, 2014. Arrived in Kinshasa, Barthelemy Bongo 5Akanga Njila), President and funder of the “Association pour le Développement des Echecs au Gabon (ADEG) – Equivalent to a federation, came to meet the former world Champion and candidate Mr. Garry Kasparov, visiting the former Zaire.

Back to Gabon 3 days after, Barthelemy will chair his last general assembly of the ADEG Fevruary the 15th- 2014) during which the majority of its members will vote the support to Garry Kasparov for the next Fide Election in Tromso, 2014. Nobody at that moment could imagine what would happen.

Les than one week after, Barthelemy discovered that ADEG has been purely and simply erased from the FIDE website.

Instead, a new association appeared, the AGE, none knows about, chaired by an unsuccessful candidate to the ADEG internal election. This, February the 20th of February 2014.

A few days after, during the tour of the candidate Kirsan Ilyumzhinov in Cameroon, the president of the ufo AGE is officially welcomed as THE representative of Gabon. Predictably, he supports the candidacy of the incumbent president of FIDE.
Barthelemy noticed a tiny detail: why has the ghost association an Egyptian as delegate?

Barthelemy will address an email to the president of the African chess Confederation, chaired by Mr. Lakhdar Mazouz who answered:
I have found out that your Association [ADEG] has been just created and you have tentatively let me believe that it represents the Official Gabon Chess organisation affiliated to Fide.
I would like here to declare that Fide recognises only the Association Gabonaise des Echecs presided by   Mr. Gabin Nicaise YALA.
Of course I cancel the message of congratulation I sent to you, as I have been mislead on purpose to prejudice the interests of the Association Gabonaise des Echecs.
Lakhdar Mazouz
President African Chess Confederation

Anyone of us would then be tempted to search in FIDE website the origin of Gabon’s membership. And then… Ooops, what a surprise!

M. Barthelemy Bongo !
Point 5A, a link can be found, about Gabon membership, in PDF format. In the document, all proofs and documents were given by Gabon and published in February 2008, saying that the association that represents Gabon is called… ADEG, and the president is … Mr. Barthelemy Bongo!

When the Presidency of the Republic, the Ministry of Sports and the Olympic Committee became involved…

Although theorically blatant, this rape of national integrity will not be corrected, despite Barthelemy’s multiple calls for help to FIDE.

It is now the Country that claims, with documents, that only ADEG represents Gabon from the very beginning. The Ministry of Sports orders without delay Fide to restore the original information. Then the Olympic Committee joined the demand, with the personal support of the President of the Republic, Mr. Ali Bongo.

With all the documents to support his demand, Barthelemy reiterates to FIDE the need to urgently restore the situation as it was, and asked for proofs and documents that may show the reality of AGE, the puppet association.

En vain. Nous sommes déjà le 15 Juin 2014.
In vain, we are now June 15th.

To date, Fide website continues to pretend that AGE is the unique representative of Gabon.

Barthelemy even turned to AIDEF, thinking that the francophone association would get involved in this obvious case.

Maybe has he forgotten that it’s an election period. Today, supporting Garry Kasparov requires courage, as financial offers and Russian embassies pressure don’t suffice to bend the will for change.

And Mr. Ncube, the passive vice-president of FIDE since 2006 but above all candidate to the presidency of the African Chess Confederation, to teach us transparency, democracy, integrity and virtue of FIDE…

Friends Gabonese, you have silent friends, attentive presidents of federations. And the D-day, they will make it known that in the poor countries, despised or simply weak, one thinks with his head and votes with his heart!

In the meantime, Gabon has the right to recover its sovereignty, and its representatives have the right to defend the colours of the country during the Olympiads. Which cannot happen as long as deliberate obstacles exist, with the obvious aim to exceed the deadlines.

Gentlemen of Fide, restore this country’s rights ! This ridiculous roadblock discredit you more, day after day.
